I have to refrain from using the easy review of this movie and saying “Everything is awesome!” It is though. The animation is true to the heart of the Lego vision. If it’s not actual lego, it’s a child-like animation to fully compliment it. The voice actors are great. We get the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman. That’s just a few though. It’s full of cameos and cool people. The story is ridiculously layered and seriously competes with The Matrix on the layers of story within a story within a story. The story is similar too. We are told of a chosen one, we are introduced to a normal guy who ends up being said “one”. We follow the doubt, struggle, and empowerment of the character while fighting off against the authority of evil. That’s not a spoiler, that’s just one of the many deep layers of story I just mentioned. The Lego Movie was the best movie I’ve seen so far in 2014. It was funny, charming, creative, endearing, engaging and everything you’d want in a movie like this. Legos are a toy that most of the living generations have experienced and appreciated. This movie falls into the same category. It’s something kids can watch and love, their parents, their older silblings, folks without kids, and even the most cynical of movie nerds. It’s just fun. The movie builds on its own fun and enjoyment the entire time. If you’re reading this and haven’t seen this movie then you’re most definitely not buying the hype and thinking, “This movie can’t be THAT good”. It is! See it! See it now! A
