I was iffy about this movie. I've been tricked into watching Ice Cube movies
before. After "Boys in the Hood" and "Friday" I always want to like his stuff.
Sadly I've been faced with the fact that his movies are more miss than hit. My
biggest Ice Cube let down had to be "First Sunday". The cast for that movie was
amazing, but the movie was dreadful. That's what I feared would be the case
here. Thankfully not the case! This movie was waaay better than I anticipated.
In fact it wouldn't be too much to say this is one of the best comedies I've
seen in a while. The cast is made up of Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, John Leguizamo, Bryan Callen, Tika Sumpter and Laurence Fishburne so it’s obviously a pretty decent roster. The plot is solid enough. Kevin Hart
plays a normal dude who plays video games and has bigger dreams than his current
place in life. He wants to marry Ice Cubes sister and become a cop. Cube plays
an angry cop who doesn't approve of Hart. Hart goes on a ride along with Cube
to prove he worthy of marrying his sister. Crime solving hijinks ensues as the
plot thickens. I won't spoil the story, but I'd fully recommend going on
the ride. It's a fun story, the chemistry was great, the jokes worked, the
pacing keeps your interest, and it was a good time. I hope there's a sequel. For
that to happen I think you should watch this movie. Unless you are some kind of
humorless heartless prude then you will enjoy it. B+
