I knew this movie was a comedy going in. I just didn’t know what kind. I’m a fan of David Wain movies. I even went to an advance screening of “Role Models” in Chicago a few years back. I know the awesomeness he brings to the table. “They Came Together” is his latest release. Written by Wain and Michael Showalters, it stars Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd as the leads in an ironic-meta-tongue in cheek satire of the typical romantic comedy. It plays on all the stereotypes and still pulls off being super charming and cute. There is some great jokes in here and some solid performances but the ironic tone didn’t hit as sharp as a “Wet Hot American Summer”. It’s not fair to compare and I still enjoyed this movie. It’s a movie to watch on a weekend afternoon or when you’re just hanging out and need something both vulgar and whimsical. Basically, it’s worth checking out at your earliest convenience. B-
