MANIAK MOMENTS |
EPISODE 8: MATCH 3 |
Episode: 8 Match: 3
Maniak Title vs. Tag Titles
Co-Maniak Champs: Alto/Reaper vs. Tag Champs: Tristin Hayze/Willie Richardson
Event: THE TABLES HAVE TURNED
Date: 05/23/04
Duration: 9:51
Before this, Willie and Hayze teamed up and won the Tag Team Titles from The Super Villains. It was an unlikely pairing, but it was Hayze’s first title in MEW. A long overdue title, I might add. It would be his luck that his only show with a title defense would be the last show. Also before this saw Alto, that’s “a lot” for you dyslexic folk, and Reaper both pin Sabbath at the same time to become the co-Maniak champion. And in true “WTF” action, we take both groups and put them against each other in a Title vs. Title Match. If you get pinned you lose your belt, simple as that. In the match we see Willie and Hayze beat the hell out of Alto and Reaper. Hayze is dressed like R-Kelly and stuffs his tights with water bottles. Of course “The Tables Have Turned” was the last MEW show so in most cases you’re seeing these guys at their MEW peeks because I’m pretty all four wrestlers would go on to evolve. Then the end is a huge mind f**k. Instead of Hayze or Richardson getting the pin, Reaper snuck up on his long time partner and rolled up the win. At this point, Grim Reaper became the solo Maniak Champion. I know the plans were to have Reaper and Alto have a small feud before moving on in their own directions. I would of liked to of seen this as Alto was JUST getting his stuff together and Reaper was due a solo run. I’m pretty sure Hayze and Richardson would have wrestled The Super Villains, Wet-N-Wild, FirePro, and other tag teams at the time. They started off as the old story of “enemies forced to tag” and then become pretty tight. I don’t care if the crowd sat there on their hands for it…I like this match. It doesn’t really tell much of a story, but the spots and moves are pretty cool.
