Episode: 14 Match: 5
March of the Maniakz
Event: SCARRED FOR LIFE
Date: 11/25/01
Duration: 27:50
(*Audio Disclaimer: The audio is jacked up. It’s probably best to watch it with the audio up to a lower level. If you adjust a little, it works and you can still hear some commentary, the crowd, and the bump sounds. This is a horror of dealing with old VHS tapes. I suppose it’s good that I’m transferring these over to some form of digital copy before these tapes turn to ash or something. Sorry about that, but it’s still definitely worth checking out. *)
Oh my. The “March of the Maniakz” match was one of my hair brain ideas that almost worked out successfully. It was basically a four man gauntlet with pins and over the top eliminations being legal. A little “Royal Rumble” thrown in for good measure. If you played WWF/WWE video games before PS2 then you know these rules already. Any way… we had TWO of these matches. The second one was at Wrestlefest 2. This was the first. It had tons of people in it. We get the official MEW debut of Kaleb Pierce, Harlequin showing up for the first time, Tank looking really good, Machine killing people, and the one and only appearance of the masked “Fruit Loop”. A little random fact back story is that the name of the match was one of MANY little tributes to my favorite band, Nine Inch Nails. They have a song called “March of the Pigs”… replace “Pigs” with “Maniakz” and the rest is history. I really liked these matches. It gave MEW a chance to showcase its talent in a unique format. The ending saw Chayne Wylde powdering from Cyanide. Cyanide got the win. The original plan was for Cyanide to take on Mista Showtime for the MEW Enterprise Title at the next show and eventually join up with Wylde and others in a stable. Neither would happen. The next show Cyanide would take on and lose to Machine for the then vacant strap. Wylde would go on to be part of the coolest heel stable ever, “The Establishment”. This is a fun match, but maybe 10 minutes too long… or 10 minutes too short. You decide.
