*NORTH AMERICAN TITLE*
BATTLE ROYAL
Event: THE TABLES HAVE TURNED
Date: 5/23/04
Duration: 5:32
It sucks that this was the last MEW show. Shawn Ebner was the epitome of what the “North American Title” was all about. I thought Chippy was champ before this, but I guess not because he’s IN the battle royal. Johnny Mac, maybe? In this battle royal there are a lot of fun people. Justin Vega, Slappy, “Iowa” Joe Marquette, Carl MorrisSabbath, , Alto, Reaper, Gilbert Lewis, Shaun Ebner, Jarrod Priest, Jeff “Twist” Canaday, Chippy Castro, and the lone match of “Micky Finnegan”(Mike Mathews, brother of WWE announcer Josh Mathews). He was in and out in what I think is a record. This was just a solid little battle royal. It didn’t try to go too long, was kept short, somewhat crisp, and is entertaining for the duration. I really dug the finish with the flip over clothes line to eliminate Vega and then the duck down to get “Iowa” Joe out. In 9 out 10 cases, that type of spot would not of been as well executed in MEW. We had a few battle royals over the years, but I think this was probably the best of them. We planned on having a Shaun Ebner/”Iowa” Joe Marquette “Flag Match” for the belt after this, but it would never materialize. None the less, I can’t think of a better “last champ” than Ebner.
