Episode: 15 Match: 5
Team Firepro vs. Team MEW
Event: PANDEMONIUM
Date: 05/11/03
Duration: 23:23
(*Audio Disclaimer: The audio is jacked up. It’s probably best to watch it with the audio up to a lower level. If you adjust a little, it works and you can still hear some commentary, the crowd, and the bump sounds. This is a horror of dealing with old VHS tapes. I suppose it’s good that I’m transferring these over to some form of digital copy before these tapes turn to ash or something. Sorry about that, but it’s still definitely worth checking out. *)
This match rocked. I kind of forgot about it. Sorry for the random areas of noise and the cuts. There were a few moves missed because the tape was trashed. Still, I don’t think we miss too much. This was the best version of Team Firepro in MEW. Bryan Johnson led Machine, Tristin Hayze, Havok, and Eric Marx in dominance. It helped that Eryn was really coming into her own as a heel as well. Prior to this match Machine and Eryn both nearly got into scuffles with fans. A small riot-like atmosphere broke out after a fan threw a battery at Machine. Thankfully local wrestlers and long time friends and fans Devon Fury and Pledge Jones were in the crowd that night and did the job of security that night. It got really weird when Pledge would find a pretty big knife on the ground in the midst of the scuffle. Things got settled down and the crowd was ready to see Firepro get their asses kicked. Enter the really unlikely grouping of “Team MEW”. We had Stryc 9, Kenny Courageous, Carl Morris, and Acid Jaz team up to take down Firepro. But before they wrestle, they all share in a dance. It’s pretty unprecedented, but so was MEW. Crazy shit just happened. The match was chaotic, but everyone seemed to have their moments and big spots. I love the finishing move exchange towards the end and the final table spot followed by the chair assisted leg drop was REALLY cool. Overall, it was a pretty nicely executed match. Firepro took the win, but MEW wasn’t done fighting back. A few shows down the road another team would be assembled to take on Firepro called the “MEW-Tang Clan”. We lost again and that match was fun in its own right (I wore tights). Sadly it wouldn’t be THIS version of Team Firepro due to scheduling and injuries. When I think back about MEW main events I’ll admit that this match isn’t one that instantly comes to mind. I watch it now and it’s pretty impressive. Good job to everyone in retrospect!
